I’m super excited today to release this podcast interview with Ryder Pearce, co-founder of Sherpa.  I did a short interview with him almost 5 months ago when this site was still in its infancy and it’s amazing to see how far we’ve both come since then.  As you guys know, my site is all about helping drivers be more efficient and earn more by working smarter, not harder.  So I’m always looking for people to interview or topics to talk about that will help drivers out there become better at what they do and more efficient too!

It was a pleasure to interview Ryder about Sherpa because their goals align nicely with everything that I preach: diversifying your income, using data to be a more efficient driver, driving for multiple TNC’s, etc.  During the podcast, Ryder also broke some news about the future of Sherpa and a new company that they’re going to be partnering with.  It’s actually one that I’ve had on my radar so make sure that you stay tuned for that news.

FRIDAY RIDESHARE ROUNDUP: How Safe (and Legal) is TNC Driving?

It seems like every week presents a slew of interesting rideshare stories but my question is will it ever slow down?  Today, RSG contributor Jack Ross takes a look at the safety and legality of TNC driving.  It was hard to narrow down this week’s list of top stories but we did it, so enjoy!

Welcome back to another edition of the World of Ridesharing, where the media seems to be tuning in to the fact that there are challenges aplenty in the future for TNCs, not to mention some questions raised about a-certain-company-with-morality-issues that are likely nothing you (or Uber) haven’t heard before, though this batch feels quite necessary for all drivers to keep tabs on.

What might that be, you ask? For starters, a must-read about your insurance while logged-in driving, Vice News gets interested in ridesharing, local American news crews circle the wagons (I SEE you, Alaska and Florida!), Uber snags a former Lyft exec, Travis Kalanick gets called out, and the Obvious Headline of the Week. Vamos! [Read more…]

Get 70,000 Bonus Points With The Chase Ink Plus Business Card

I’ve always enjoyed traveling but about 5 years ago I got really into using miles and points to travel around the world.  There aren’t many hobbies that will pay you but travel hacking is one of them!  Now a days, I talk all about it on my other blog and freelance write about it on various travel sites around the net (a lot less these days though now that I’m focused on rideshare!).  It’s been a fun and rewarding hobby for many years but occasionally it will also serve another purpose.  Today, I’m going to share a great limited time offer that could be rewarding and very lucrative for all of you business owners out there.

The Chase Ink Plus Card is currently offering a sign-up bonus of 70,000 points that’s worth up to $845 in travel rewards or 1-3x that if you redeem for travel with one of Chase’s partners like Southwest, United or Hyatt.  I’ve been signing up for credit cards for a while and this is one of the top 5 offers I’ve ever seen.  Chase Ultimate Reward Points are extremely flexible and if you don’t ever travel, you can even redeem the points for cash ($700 for 70,000 points). What Happens When You Get Into An Accident With a Chicago Taxi Driver?

As rideshare drivers, we like to hope that something like this will never happen but there’s no denying the facts.  Rideshare drivers are more likely to get into an accident (whether at-fault or not) since they are on the road more than your average driver.  Today, RSG contributor Scott Van Maldegiam gives us a first hand account of what happens after you collide with a Chicago taxi driver.

Yes, I had the unpleasant experience of having a minor accident with a Chicago Taxi.  I have heard many horror stories, but as I look back on it, it wasn’t so bad.  It was a complete hassle but it could have been a lot worse.  Here is my experience and the process I went through.  I will also recommend what to do should it happen to you.

The Accident

I was on a single lane street coming up to a T intersection with a stop light at about 11pm on a Friday night.  The light was red and I was turning right to pick up a passenger. Yes, I was on ride request so UberX’s insurance was in effect.

5 Ways To Make Money With Airbnb

Even though this site is dedicated to helping rideshare drivers make more money by working smarter, not harder, that doesn’t mean there aren’t a whole array of other ways to make money in the sharing economy.

As part of an ongoing series taking a look at the sharing economy, I’m going to be reviewing popular services ranging from Task Rabbit and Eat With to Airbnb and Postmates.  There is a wide world of opportunity out there with the sharing economy and it just doesn’t make sense to limit your skills to one specific niche like rideshare.  If there’s a specific company you’d like me to review or one that you’ve already used and would like to talk about, shoot me an e-mail and let’s hear what you have to say!

Similar to my rideshare journey, I started off with Airbnb on the customer side of things.  Over the years, I’ve used Airbnb to stay at properties in Hawaii, San Francisco and Santa Barbara.  And what initially attracted me to the service was the fact that Airbnb properties were significantly cheaper than renting a comparable hotel room.

I’ve actually never been a big fan of paying for travel (as evidenced by my numerous articles on ‘travel hacking’) but when I do have to pay for a room, I prefer to use Airbnb.  Among the many benefits on the consumer side, there are actually just as many on the owner’s side.  Today I’m going to detail a few of the ways I’ve made money off Airbnb and also present some unique strategies that some of my friends have been doing to make money off Airbnb too.
