2. Research and Clinical Studies
It should be no surprise to Boston readers that Boston has a lot of colleges and hospitals. But did you know these facilities are always conducting research and need people to participate? If you qualify, you can take part in innovative studies AND get paid for your time! If you don’t know where to start, check out Craigslist under Jobs>Etc/Misc.
There are several opportunities available at any given time. Some are general studies for various topics, and some are more specific. One that I found is for men and women ages 20-70 to do paid market research study in the Boston and surrounding area for $250 cash for participating.
Another was for a 26-day sleep study. All they are looking for is someone who is healthy, a non-smoker, not on any medications and ages 18-35. For participating you could earn up to $10,000!
And, there are several others for those who are trying to quit smoking, who own certain vehicles and more. Just take a peek and see if any fit your lifestyle and schedule to earn extra!
Keep in mind that just because you sign up for it and are willing to participate, it doesn’t mean you’ll be chosen for the study. And, if the links included here no longer work, it’s likely because they found the participants they needed or wanted and are no longer offering these deals.
If you don’t feel comfortable signing up for studies on Craigslist, you can always check out the local hospitals to see what clinical trials are happening and sign up directly if you’re interested.

3. Sell Your Stuff
One of the fastest ways to make $1,000 in one day or without a job? Sell your stuff.
You might be surprised that what you’ve got—and don’t want anymore—might add up to $1,000. For example, lots of people now are looking for at-home exercise equipment, so if you have an exercise bike or elliptical that you haven’t been using, consider selling it online with OfferUp.
Melissa, RSG’s Managing Editor, used OfferUp when she was moving to sell her gym equipment, bookcases and even a sectional sofa and received hundreds of dollars for all of it—without lifting a finger!
You can also try local pawn shops or selling on eBay to make a few extra bucks to declutter your home.

Finally, a big city like Boston is an excellent place to sell your own items (or buy items to flip!) Boston is a big city with people coming and going all the time (get deals on furniture when college students move out, then sell those items in the fall when new college students move in!), so not only do you have more people viewing your items, you also can list for a higher price than you could if you lived somewhere more rural.
4. Rent Out Your Home/Space
Take photos of your home and upload them with a description to Airbnb. Then rent out a room in your home. You can earn $150 per day or more. People love visiting the Boston area and would likely pay top dollar to stay in a home near the Harbor or historical sites around town.
If you have great views of Boston from your home, be sure to include those pictures to entice people to stay for their trip.
Don’t feel comfortable renting out your house to visitors? Rent out your space to people in your city using Neighbor. Neighbor is the Airbnb of storage space, with people storing things like summer or winter gear. This is perfect if you have some extra room in your house or garage and can connect with someone who doesn’t have a lot of space, but is willing to pay more to keep their stuff in a safe, secure location.
Neighbor users in Boston are earning anywhere from $100 and up, depending on how large their space is and where it is located in the city.
5. Save When You Shop – Cash Back Apps
During this coronavirus crisis, people are switching to online shopping. One of our favorite shopping and cash back apps is called Rakuten, which saves people money with automatic cash back coupons. How can you make $25 per sign up with Rakuten? By telling people about it!
