RSG039: Expanding the RSG team

Although it may not look like it, running a blog can be a lot of work.  A few months ago, I actually took the leap and hired Christian Perea to help out and on today’s podcast we talk to him all about his roles and responsibilities for RSG.

If you’re looking for a nitty-gritty rideshare podcast, this probably isn’t the one for you, but today we will be giving you a behind the scenes look at how we deal with advertisers, how we come up with content for the blog and more!

  • If you haven’t checked out our video training course yet, Maximum Ridesharing Profits – you should!

Interview with Christian Perea

  • Had a regular job before becoming a rideshare driver
  • Like many rideshare drivers, took an Uber and started asking drivers their opinions of driving
  • Started driving May 2014 and slowly transitioned from full time job to rideshare driving
  • Knew about the price cuts

Pitching The Rideshare Guy

  • Moved to San Francisco to drive full time because pay was better
  • Met Harry (RSG) at a Your Mechanic event
  • First article on how to pick up passengers like a pro
  • Writing skills – not as easy as it seems to write an article on the RSG

Full Time Role for RSG

  • Started getting a lot of inquiries for advertising on RSG
  • Half of the job is related to advertising
  • Win Back Your Expenses Promotion
  • Content creation – following leads to new stories, keeping the pulse of the rideshare industry and drivers
  • Attempting to do YouTube videos

Writing for RSG

  • A lot goes into writing for the blog
  • Important to get all the facts right before writing, find out what’s important for drivers, because drivers are our readers
  • Avoiding reactionary content as much as possible
  • Easier to write the articles that you know – what it’s like being a driver, tips for new drivers, etc.

What’s a Typical Day Working for RSG?

  • Works from home
  • Email, reading driver feeds and check the pulse of the industry and how drivers are feeling
  • Tackles big pieces/articles first – gets them set up
  • Afternoon spent working on articles for the rest of the week, handling advertiser inquiries and any press requests
  • Evening is the most productive time – caffeine has kicked in! Spends time working on the biggest project of the day
  • Done working around 7 or 8 p.m.
  • Best thing about this job is being productive when actually productive – most productive time is at night, and this would never work in a traditional work setting

Lightning Round Questions

  • Writing, talking, power structures – strongest points
  • Time management – needs to work on!
  • Harry is a pretty good boss
  • Able to remain in an industry that he cares about, help drivers and empower them
