Allstate

Allstate’s new rideshare coverage is unique.  While it provides coverage during period 1, Allstate’s rideshare coverage also helps fill the gap that arises when a customer’s personal auto policy liability coverage limits are greater than what’s provided by Uber and Lyft during period 1, 2 and 3. The coverage also protects drivers against high deductibles that ridesharing companies have for their coverage.

State Farm

State Farm’s rideshare endorsement is more extensive than most other options since they extend their coverage limits during period 1, 2 and 3.  This means that your personal deductible will be in effect any time you are behind the wheel, even when you are driving for Uber or Lyft.  Also, if you have other coverages such as medical, towing and rental car coverage, those will also be in affect even when driving for Uber and Lyft.

Farmers

Farmers Insurance was one of the first to offer a rideshare-friendly policy in the state.  With their policy addition, you get coverage during period 1 (app on, but no passenger) and you won’t be dropped for telling them you’re a rideshare driver.

GEICO

With a single policy, it doesn’t matter whether you’re “on the clock” or just driving for personal reasons. Eliminate coverage gaps and don’t worry about which policy is primary if you have an accident. Best of all, GEICO’s ridesharing coverage is offered at rates typically much lower than taxi and commercial rates.  Also, Uber, Lyft, or other on-demand service—drivers are not limited to just one transportation network company.

Liberty Mutual

Liberty Mutual offers very competitive rates with very flexible billing options, making Liberty Mutual a great rideshare-friendly option. They will not cancel your policy if you are participating in a rideshare program. Also, Liberty Mutual does not count rideshare miles for premium rating purposes, assuring very competitive rates.

Mercury

Mercury first opened their doors in 1962, and they began offering rideshare insurance in Texas in early 2017. Dedicated managers and enthusiastic employees work hand-in-hand with their network of independent agents.

Mercury is one of the most recent additions to insurance companies offering rideshare friendly insurance.  Mercury offers full coverage during period 1.  Mercury Insurance was named by Forbes as one of ‘America’s Most Trustworthy Companies’, earning a place among “America’s 50 Most Trustworthy Financial Companies’ for 2015.  This is sixth time Mercury has been awarded this honor.

MetLife

MetLife Auto & Home’s Lyft endorsement provides coverage for Lyft drivers engaged in activities related to providing Lyft services. The endorsement offers coverage for drivers and passengers at every stage of the trip:  while the driver is waiting for a passenger request; is en-route to pick up a passenger; and during the trip with the passenger. Premiums applicable to the endorsement will vary based on the mileage driven in the Lyft program.

Progressive

We don’t have a lot of information about Progressive’s program for Lyft drivers but like GEICO’s policy, it is essentially a commercial policy for rideshare drivers. It is rumored that Progressive will work with Lyft to gather data about miles driven and adjust rates accordingly. You can get more information and a quote from Progressive by calling 1-800-240-9839.

USAA

USAA is a well known financial services company that exclusively serves the military community and their families since 1922.  As part of their auto insurance products, USAA now offers a rideshare endorsement that covers Period 1 (app on, but no passenger) and you won’t be dropped for letting them know you are a rideshare driver.
