There’s a new way for rideshare drivers to get an EV to drive on Uber and Lyft! OneCarNow, or OCN, is a company that is launching in Miami, Florida, in October 2024. OCN offers an all-inclusive auto subscription service that includes insurance, maintenance and 24/7 support. It is marketed as a flexible alternative to car ownership, catering to both personal and business needs.
OCN is one of the largest fleet operators (they recently raised $86 million Series A), and it’s exciting that they’re bringing their unique model to the United States. This is one of the first car subscription offerings that lets drivers rent and, if they choose, eventually own the EV that they really want.
If you’re a full-time rideshare driver and tired of putting lots of miles on your car and/or paying high gas prices–or just want a nicer and more modern car, this could be a great option for you. Read on to learn more.

Vehicle Choices
OCN currently offers three different EVs to choose from (but more to come), and they all qualify for higher tiers on Uber and Lyft – which means more rides and more $$. When you sign up for OCN, you’re able to input your vehicle preference, though what vehicle you receive may depend upon availability.
Hyundai Ioniq5 Long Range
This vehicle offers a range of 336 miles. It allows up to 4 passengers in addition to the driver, with a large cargo area with a volume of 60 cu ft (good for airport trips). It also boasts a 12.3-inch touch screen, immersive sound, heated seats, and more for a comfortable ride for the driver and passengers.
Using the calculator on OCN’s website, you’ll see, on average, a savings of $628.60 each month to fuel this vehicle if you drive 250 miles per day.

Driver Qualifications
In order to qualify for renting these vehicles, you as a rideshare driver will have to have completed at least 800 rides on ridesharing platforms (i.e., Uber, Lyft), maintain a minimum rating of 4.8 stars, and have more than 1 year of rideshare experience under your belt.
It’s easy to start your application online. Begin by providing your full name, cell phone number, and email address and choose which EV you’re most interested in.
Once you’ve submitted this information, you’ll receive a response from the company to continue your application. It should take 48 hours max to receive a response.
In the future, OCN says that more EV options will be made available and may include the Tesla Model Y and other driver-favorite EVs.
Benefits to Rideshare Drivers
This service is a dream for rideshare drivers who drive full-time and want access to a top-of-the-line car that they could not afford, finance or lease otherwise.
Not only do you avoid wear and tear on your personal vehicle, but you also get to save on gas and potentially try an EV for the first time to see if you actually like the perks of EV versus gas-powered vehicles.
I went EV about 8 years ago and haven’t looked back since. I love the power, comfort and convenience of charging at home.
On that note, you’ll likely be better off if you have access to Level 2 charging in your home or at least nearby. OCN provides extensive orientation and benefits to help you access the nearest charging stations conveniently and affordably.
With the available vehicles having a range of 310-336 miles per charge, you should be able to get a full day of driving. Although many drivers like to pit-stop at charging stations and refill when they have downtime.
Another BIG rideshare driver perk is the EV incentives that Uber and Lyft offer to their Premier and Comfort electric vehicle drivers. The Zero Emissions Incentive allows drivers of fully electric vehicles (such as those offered through OCN) to earn up to an extra $4,000 annually on Uber’s platform. The incentive amount is determined by how much you drive for the platform using a fully electric vehicle.
One thing I’m looking forward to is that in the future, drivers who want to earn in-car advertising revenues and increase their average tip earnings will have that option, too.
Now, of course, there are some downsides to consider as well. The weekly cost can add up and make it difficult for some drivers who aren’t able to commit to a full-time driving schedule.
You’d be doing yourself a favor if you track your weekly earnings to make sure that you’ll be able to earn what you need for yourself after the weekly vehicle payment. But as long as you put in 30-40 hours a week or more every week, you should be able to go above and beyond the earnings threshold.
For now, the service is only available in Miami starting in October. So, if you’re a driver in the United States, you can only benefit from this company if you’re in the Miami area. Though, with their success in Mexico, it wouldn’t surprise me if they expand to other large cities in the near future. So, keep an eye out for OCN coming to you!
Final Thoughts
OCN is one of the easiest car subscriptions out there and is unique in that they offer a rent-to-own option. I’m a big fan of EVs in general since they allow you to increase your earnings on the ride-sharing app of your preference by saving money on fuel costs and earning additional EV incentive credits from Uber.
If you’re a rideshare driver in Miami, FL, check out OCN when it comes to the market in October 2024.
FAQs
How does rent-to-own work?
You can choose when you start renting your vehicle if you’d like to rent-to-own or just rent. If you choose the rent-to-own option, the payments you make will go toward purchasing the vehicle. If you do choose to own the vehicle outright after 24 or or 36 months, you can do so at a competitive price compared to the market. Once you pay the set amount to own your vehicle, it will be all yours.
Is OCN legit?
Yes! We’ve chatted with the founders and executives, and the company has also raised a recent Series A funding round of $86m – which should give them ample capital for internal expansion, specifically Miami in October 2024 and other US markets in 2025.
Do I need to have good credit?
No, OCN does not require a formal credit threshold to rent–they are one of the only players in the market that evaluates other factors, such as earnings and good driving record, to determine eligibility for rental.
What if I’ve never had an EV before?
No worries! OCN’s team will provide you with a full briefing on charging access best practices and you’ll get used to it. Most EV drivers love it and can’t imagine going back to ICE.
Can I earn more driving with OCN?
Yes, with this solution, you’ll automatically qualify for trips on Uber Comfort tiers of service (or even Comfort Electric, Premier, etc, depending on the car you choose), earning up to 30%+ more per ride.
Can I buy the car after the rental period is over?
Yes. This is the first genuine rent-to-own program that’s an official partner of Uber, and it allows you to make an upscale EV that is completely yours. The term of rental is either 24 or 36 months before making a commitment to purchase at a highly competitive rate.
