Lyft Introducing A New AI Tool For Drivers “Earnings Assistant”

A few months ago, in a significant move to enhance driver support and streamline operations, Lyft launched the “Driver Assistant,” an AI-powered tool developed in partnership with Anthropic. This initiative was part of Lyft’s broader strategy to integrate advanced technologies into its platform, aiming to improve the experience for both drivers and riders.

Now comes another Driver AI Tool called the “Earnings Assistant.” In this article, I will explain what the Earnings Assistant is, how one can utilize it to increase individual earnings, and my take on all this potentially. By automating these interactions, the Driver/Earnings Assistant aims to reduce drivers’ time seeking information, allowing them to focus more on providing rides and earning income.

What is the Earnings Assistant?

As we move towards an AI-filled future in everything we do, Lyft just launched the “Earnings Assistant.” It is an industry-first AI-powered tool designed to help drivers eliminate the daily guesswork of when and where to drive. This new and innovative technology leverages real-time and historical data like airport arrivals, local events, and Turbo times to empower drivers with insights and help them optimize their time on the road.

For drivers, this means:

Personalized plans – Drivers can generate a plan for an upcoming driving session that is tailored to their schedule and preferences, allowing them to hit the road with confidence.

  • Step-by-step reminders – Drivers will get reminders for every step of the plan so they can focus on earning.
  • Real-time guidance – Drivers can turn to their Earnings Assistant anytime they need to get recommendations on what to do right now.

My Take: Welcome to the age of AI for Rideshare. As Drivers we are at the mercy of machine learning, algorithms, chat bots etc. It all feels like a casino, with the sounds and colors displayed on the app to get our attention. Sometimes I feel like the app knows me better than me!

This will be a useful tool for many new Drivers. If you are a veteran like me, I am on Autopilot when I drive. One must understand that to be successful in this gig, you have to work when and where there is demand, you must know the traffic patterns and the general rhythm of your city! As much as I appreciate the effort by Lyft, my skeptic radar is up. Could this tool possibly be used to distribute Driver supply to parts of the city that Lyft needs supply in to satisfy the demand coming up? I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now!

One thing is certainly missing in all this, the promise of higher Earnings. Adjusted for inflation, driver earnings have been on a steady decline since 2019, it is 2025 and I am still receiving $3 pings! Time will tell if this new AI tool will improve Driver earnings, please email me your findings to sergio@therideshareguy.com!

How to Sign Up

Lyft Drivers will be able to sign up for early access to Earnings Assistant on the waitlist here on 4/28/25. This launch builds on Lyft’s commitment to ensuring drivers can reach their goals on and off the platform, including:

  • Driver Accomplishment Letter: a personalized document also powered by AI that eligible drivers can download in-app that showcases their impact and summarizes their journey with Lyft. The letter is inclusive of positive feedback, rating, and tenure.
  • New and improved Lyft Rewards: In most US regions, drivers will soon be able to earn points on every ride — no matter when they drive. And, they can redeem their points for rewards like cash, gift cards, and car services in the new Lyft Shop.

My Take: I like the Driver accomplishment letter. Most Drivers use Rideshare as a stepping stone towards their Plan B. As Drivers we are in the Service Industry. Ultimately, the Rider does not know the CEO of Lyft but they know us for the 20 minutes that they are in our car. We are the face of Lyft for the duration of the trip. The Rider experience depends on how they are treated by Drivers.

We are dealing with 20-30 Riders a day and we should use that to improve our communication skills. That in turn should improve our networking opportunities. You never know who you are going to have as a Rider. Your next job offer may come from one of those people! Presenting your future Employer an Accomplishment Letter will go a long way.

There is a glass ceiling with this job, no chance to move up within the Lyft ranks, no chance to earn more or get raises. However, I believe most people omit putting Rideshare driving on their resume, they feel embarrassed, they really should not! They should be proud of what they are doing and talk about what Rideshare driving has taught them during their interviews!

I very much like the new and improved Lyft rewards, specifically earning points regardless of when one drives. Well done Lyft! Now we all will have a chance to achieve Elite status quicker and have access to better Scheduled trips, perks etc. Redeeming points for services or cash is also a positive.

Executive Quote From Lyft EVP Jeremy Bird

“At Lyft, we know that driving is more than taking people from point A to B; it’s about community, connections, and reaching goals. That’s why our top priority is investing in drivers’ success, and we’re excited to announce the Earnings Assistant as proof of that. By reducing the guesswork about when and where to drive, we’re helping drivers make the most of their time on the road so they can better focus on what matters to them.”

My Take: All these new technologies such as AI are moving at a breakneck pace. Some like Autonomous Vehicles will replace all of us one day but as with everything else in life, we need to learn, adapt and adjust or become dinosaurs! Rideshare is not a creer, it should be used as a stepping stone to something bigger and better for ourselves and families!

AI and the tools it provides should be used to our advantage, I commend Lyft for introducing the “Earnings Assistant,” but the jury is still out. I would love for our community to give this a test and please share your findings with me if usage of AI incrementally improved your earnings.
