Minibar Review – Alcohol Delivery

We can have almost everything delivered: food, groceries, home and health products – but what about alcohol? Minibar is a wine, liquor and beer delivery service that works with local liquor stores to get you in-stock spirits and more, quickly. RSG contributor Chonce Maddox-Rhea shares what you can expect from Minibar below.

Quick summary:

If you asked me 5 years ago if alcohol and wine would be delivered to people’s homes on-demand, I probably wouldn’t have believed it. If anything, it seems like a luxury service reserved only for the elite.

However, everyone can benefit from not having to run out to the store to grab their spirits or mixers, wait in line, get carded and all of that. Luckily, the home delivery industry has been booming over the past few years thanks to modern apps and convenient partnerships among top brands and local companies.

Now, we can choose to get alcohol and wine delivered to our homes via a handy app called Minibar, and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg either. What a time to be alive, right?

What is Minibar?

Minibar partners with local liquor stores and businesses to deliver alcohol and beer directly to your door. Minibar was co-founded by Lindsey Andrews and Lara Crystal in 2014. The platform allows over 90+ cities to order wine, beer or liquor on demand.

Independent vineyards are also included, which helped expand this company’s reach to over 40 states as well. The vineyard delivery isn’t on-demand and will take 3-4 days to be delivered. Still, it’s a great benefit to add to Minibar’s service and product offerings.

Lindsey Andrews, co-founder, and CEO of Minibar Delivery has been on record stating how drastically the on-demand liquor industry changed during the pandemic. Minibar has really done its part to help mom and pop businesses stay afloat from the early months of the pandemic and beyond.

States even loosened laws to help businesses that normally don’t deliver alcohol to be able to do so. The platform deliveries many different drinks including wine, vodka, brandy, and beer.

How Does Minibar Work?

The liquor stores do the delivery themselves, and Minibar takes a cut from the sale. You can order drinks either through their mobile app or website. Minibar partners with over 200 brands.  The hours the liquor can be delivered to your door all depend on the store hours of the liquor store near you.

Not only can you get liquor delivered to your home, but you can also book a bartender as well. Minbar is not available in every market and bartender requests should be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Not sure what to order when you sign up for the app? Minibar also has featured cocktail recipes that can help get the ideas flowing. Liquor isn’t the only thing customers can get through the platform. You can also order mixers, limes, water, mint leaves and so much more – even a 50 pound bag of ice to ensure your drinks stay chilled.

Prior to 2020, drinks were guaranteed to be delivered between 30-60 minutes. Early quarantine pushed these delivery times back between a 2-4 hour window, but has since calmed down. As of early April, Minibar Delivery’s overall sales have grown 139%, and average order size is also up 22%.

Minibar Pricing

Pricing depends on the area of the country you’re ordering from, but states like New York offer free delivery. In most markets, the majority of orders add a $5 delivery fee. You are welcome to tip drivers when paying online or cash when the order arrives.

Minibar runs sales on different liquor, like this 750 ML of Tito’s Handmade Vodka for just $17.05. Another vodka choice could be this bottle of Smirnoff N0. 21 for $13.18. If you like whiskey more, feel free to look into a 750 ML bottle of Jim Beam Bourbon for $17.15. The platform is filled with many discounts on quality wine, liquor, and beer.

Minibar vs. Drizly

In the battle between Minibar vs Drizly, the winner comes down to what you prefer to drink. If you’re a beer person, you’ll probably want Drizly. The beer section of Drizly seems pretty well stocked, and Drizly offers a ton of variety. Minibar doesn’t have as many options for beer as Drizly does.

Not only do they have light beer and IPA, Drizly also has lagers, Belgian Style ale, chilled beer, fruit beer, and so much more.

Minibar does have kegs up to 15 gallons, including Budlight, Budweiser, Blue Moon, and all the other big names.

Drizly also puts an emphasis on import spirits and beers with a wide range of drinks. Drizly and Minibar both allow customers to book bartenders, too! Drizly just needs a 48-hour notice instead of 24 hours with Minibar.

Also, now Drizly is owned by Uber! Drizly is now available in many more cities, and for many more drivers.
